Keyon Toh, Percussion

Keyon Toh, born in 2006 in Singapore, is a highly accomplished classical orchestral percussionist and drumset specialist. With a passion for music ignited at the age of three, Keyon has since developed extensive expertise in percussion, commencing formal training at thirteen. He is proficient in a diverse range of genres, including Metal, Latin, Jazz, and Contemporary, showcasing exceptional versatility on the drumset. Keyon has studied under prominent percussion instructors and participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians. He has contributed to multiple distinguished musical ensembles and orchestras, such as the Orchestra of the Music Makers, The Philharmonic Orchestra, Ventus Wind Band, and Philharmonic Wind Orchestra. His performances have been featured in national music festivals and international concert tours, earning him recognition for both solo and ensemble excellence. Keyon’s dedication to his craft and his commitment to musical artistry continue to distinguish him as a leading figure among young musicians in Singapore.

A percussion major at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts provides professional drumset and percussion instruction to students across age groups. Deeply influenced by both classical and contemporary genres, he draws inspiration from renowned orchestral percussionists and jazz legends, which shapes his dynamic and versatile approach to music. His teaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, creativity, and fostering each student’s unique musical voice, aiming to nurture not only technical proficiency but also a deep appreciation for artistry. Throughout his career, he has delivered striking performances with leading ensembles and at prestigious venues, each experience fueling his vision to elevate percussion music and inspire the next generation of musicians.

About Keyon Toh

Keyon Toh began his formal percussion studies at the School of the Arts, Singapore, where he was part of the Music Performance program from 2019 to 2023 under the guidance of Ramu and Joachim Lim. He is currently pursuing a Diploma in Music Performance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, focusing on percussion and studying with distinguished teachers including Mark Suter, Christian Schooler, Derek Koh, Pablo, and Raju.

Teaching and Mentorship

In addition to my performance career, I am dedicated to educating and guiding the next generation of percussionists and drummers. My instruction integrates rigorous technical training with musical expression, creativity, and applicable performance skills.

Teaching Philosophy

Each student is entitled to an individualized learning path tailored to their aspirations—whether preparing for auditions, developing stage presence, or nurturing a lifelong appreciation for music. I focus on methodical technique, attentive listening, and effective musical storytelling, ensuring students understand not only how to perform, but also the significance behind each piece.
